Some circumstances in life place unusually high demands on us. If there is no balance, chronic negative stress can lead to mental and physical overload.
With professional help, it is possible to stabilise yourself again and develop realistic strategies for dealing with exceptional stress.
If you can answer ‘yes’ to more than two of the following questions, then you should seek help.
- Do I often feel overwhelmed or uninterested?
- Am I more irritable, nervous, and impatient than before?
- Does everything sometimes become too much for me?
- Do I often feel exhausted or restless?
- Do I have difficulty concentrating?
- Do I worry a lot?
- Do I often sleep poorly or too little?
- Do my thoughts keep circling around the same topics?
- Do I often doubt the meaning of my life?
- Do I have physical complaints such as headaches, backaches, stomachaches, or frequent infections?
- Am I on sick leave more often than before?
- Do I have little interest in meeting friends, maintaining contacts, or doing things in my free time?
- Do I often try to compensate for my negative feelings by consuming food, making impulse purchases, drinking alcohol, taking medication, smoking, or using other drugs?
